Angkor soaks you in the- Sounds of Silence. Temples of this scale and magnitude that have survived in a land of chequered history and recent genocide ! The temples of Tah Prohm which have been taken over by the natural foliage reminds us not only of Man's devotion and an inexplicable urge to capture the unknown truth but also a desire to leave a mark on the face of his environment, knowing and being aware of his own mortality and yet humbled by the forces of nature and time. It was a trip that changes permanentaly one's perception not only of Architecture but time as well.
All the Artists who had participated in the camp to Angkor have responded to different images of this ancient land in their own manner. The churning of the ocean, the recent Pol Pot Regime, the cry of the Crickets, the Massage Parlours ,the profusion of lotuses, have all found their way into the imagery used in the works of the participating Artists.
Threshold has been conducting Artists workshops since inception, this being the seventh. This workshop has further sensitized me to the thought process of artists .The rare privilege of being with eleven Indian Artists heightened the experience that led to their responses.
My Grateful acknowledgements to all the participating artists for making this show possible.
