Notes
Curatorial Note
Paradigmatic shift or have the set parameters broadened to be more inclusive?
This exhibition is an attempt to bring together and showcase the works of some artists, both young and mid- career, whose presence has been felt beyond national boundaries. In recent times, there has been a growing awareness and heightened visibility of Indian arts in the international art arena. What perhaps binds them is the élan with which they handle their chosen mediums and concerns within their conceptual framework, often blurring the boundaries between the traditional and the Avant-garde. The present exhibition focuses on how the younger generation of artists have applied themselves to the revitalization of painting either by enlarging its range of references or by renovating the means, thus subverting the traditional mode of image making. The works on display emphasize how this genre of artists has initiated a movement towards new languages. All these artists are navigating and exploring newer routes in unknown terrains which would open up and redefine tastes and sensibilities in the coming years.
