Laugh Lines: Humour, Wit & Satire
2011
The pun can be mightier than the pen! The artists included are the ones who have
delivered a very well-gloved punch; some works do hit home a little hard, but none are
out to draw blood!
When I embarked on this curatorial venture, it was a conscious decision to focus on
the subtleties. The result is a show where each work, in its own spectacular fashion, is
layered with a humorist’s talent of wit and delivery, to produce what is at once both a
good-humoured jibe to tickle an audience, as well as a social commentary, which when
used effectively can be instrumental in affecting change!
One of the reasons I was drawn towards choosing ‘Humour’ as the theme for the
show is that humour is by its very nature spontaneous and not contrived, which
makes it extremely challenging to capture and analyse it. The success of any curatorial
endeavour depends on the involvement of all the participating artists. My grateful
acknowledgements to each and every participating artist, who have succeeded
brilliantly in this regard, each work offers gentle rebukes and reminders of human
foibles.
Manida – Thank you for your support; having you as a part of this show meant a lot.
Atul – You never cease to surprise… thank you ……. in spite of Anarkali!
Madhu – My comrade in arms, it’s a pleasure working with you.
